Sunday Rambling in the Garden

I learn I can't multitask.

First of all, no one who is a serious person who subscribed to read my writing should watch or listen to this. I am absolutely serious.

This is only for the Substack hardcores, looking for background noise. I am just being very upfront: this was experimental and is not going to teach you anything.

Treat it more like Substack AMSR because it’s truly just me rambling. There’s also a spot where the wind cuts out the audio for 10 seconds or so.

But I’ve been feeling guilty that I haven’t had any time to write lately. But it’s spring and mother nature won’t wait, so I thought I’d task-stack by recording my first video post. Gardening isn’t cognitively taxing — that’s exactly why I like it so much!

I figured I could easily monologue my deep thoughts and hot takes while getting my yard work done at the same time, but I was wrong. I can’t do one thing and think about another thing.

So instead I ended up rambling about whether lesbians exist and if so, why aren’t I one, Torsogate, and other fripperies. Apologies in advance.

Does anyone on Substack care about plants or landscaping? I’m guessing not. But if I’m wrong and anyone likes seeing gardens, maybe I’ll try this again, because next week everything is going to start popping off and blooming.

I never had the slightest interest in plants, had a phobia of worms, and thought gardening was horrifically boring. Then Covid happened, I tried this new hobby, and it’s turned into a full-blown obsession that takes all my money and free time.

I’m not even sure I “enjoy” it so much as it feels like a compulsion. Thinking no thoughts for hours every weekend is good for me. Being hunched over squatting like a peasant for hours is not, my back is not happy, but I can’t stop now if I wanted to.

The long-blooming, low-water, indestructible plant, if you need to fill space and want an incredible performer…just don’t plant it near anything you don’t want it to engulf: Max Frei Saponaria (Also, High Country Gardens is my favorite source for plants that love the west - they’re near me, but ship plants and I’ve bought some that way and it works great - high recommend, but stick with what’s been reviewed).
